Chinese Dragon With Rabbit and Snake, Animals Of The Chinese Zodiac In Dalian Park

During a visit to Dalian we took a taxi intending to visit one of the many coves in the area, but saw nothing of interest so returned back to Dalian, to visit the Workers Park. There we found the Chinese Dragon, the Rabbit and the Snake, and all the other animals of the Chinese Zodiac, each on its own plinth. Our visit was during the celebrations of the Chinese New Year, aka, Spring Festival, but these twelve animals of the Chinese Zodiac appeared to be a permanent feature in the park. The Chinese Zodiac was also presented in a series of Chinese lanterns hung on trees lining one of the park roads, but these were certainly Chinese New Year Decorations and surely would be removed at the end of the celebrations; the Lantern Festival.

The Chinese Dragon is featured in different ways and is probably the best known of all the animals in the Chinese Zodiac, yet it holds the fifth place in the cycle, between the Rabbit and the Snake. The full cycle of twelve animals being, Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. There were models of other animals in the park, including elephant, cow, and pig, almost life size and very colorful, and these were attracting the attention of children, who 'rode' the animals with delight. It was a Festival occasion in the park, with plenty to see and enjoy, for all ages.

Chinese Dragon With Five Claws Sole Property Of Emperors.

Of all the animals in The Chinese Zodiac, it can be said that the Chinese Dragon alone is the mythical beast. It is not the only such dragon, for there is the Welsh Dragon and the St.Georges Dragon of England. Perhaps the most colorful and most varied of all the dragons, are the dragons of fantasy, created from the minds of people. Another difference between the Chinese Dragon and other animals of the zodiac, is the fact that, on the assumption that it is a mythical beast, its flesh can not be eaten!

'''''
The 60-year cycle consists of two separate cycles interacting with each other. The first is the cycle of ten heavenly stems, namely the Five Elements (in order Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water) in their Yin and Yang forms. The second is the cycle of the twelve Zodiac animal signs or Earthly Branches . They are in order as follows: the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep (ram or goat), monkey, rooster, dog, and pig (boar). This combination of 5 elements X 12 animals creates the 60-year cycle, which always starts with Wood Rat and ends with Water Pig. Since the zodiac animal cycle of 12 is divisible by two, every zodiac sign can also only occur in either yin or yang: the dragon is always yang, the snake is always yin, etc. The current cycle began in the year 1984.
